This study examined the relationship between parental
substance abuse and childhood victimization in a sample
of adult domestic violence survivors. As expected, participants
with a history of parental substance abuse (n=66) reported
higher levels of childhood abuse than those without a
history of parental substance abuse (n=91). Further analyses
revealed that maternal substance abuse was strongly associated
with childhood sexual abuse, although it was not associated
with childhood physical abuse. Clinical implications of
the findings are discussed. |
