Presented at the college on Problems of Drug Dependence in Puerto Rico (June 2004)

This evaluation study investigates pre-and post differences in psy- chological functioning among predominately, minority inner-city domestic violence(DV) Survivors at an emergency DV shelter.
Participants(N=63) completed baseline and 30-day follow-up structured interviews. As expected upon arrival, mean depression scores far exceeded criteria indicating depressive symptomatology. The results show a significant decrease in depressive symptoms( p< .0001) and an increase in self-esteem at 30-day follow-up (p<.0001). Clinical and empirical implications of the findings are discussed.
